MOT’s in Carlisle
MOT’s are required for every vehicle over 3 years old and must be tested every year. Unlike a service, an MOT is not optional and must pass the test to ensure the vehicle is roadworthy. If you are unsure when your car is due for its MOT, you can check the MOT status of your vehicle.
The MOT test is usually completed between 45 minutes and 1 hour, but we recommend you factor in additional time in case it is required.
An MOT test at Telford Automobiles costs £45 (incl. VAT) and because we are a main dealer, you can be confident that we will take full care of your car.
What is included in an MOT
There are a number of checks that are completed during an MOT test to ensure your vehicle is roadworthy. These include:
- Check condition of lamps
- Check horn works correctly
- Check battery

Maintenance Services in Carlisle
At Telford Automobiles, we also offer a range of maintenance services on some of the important components of your vehicle, including brakes, wipers, timing belt, batteries and tyres.
Brakes – brakes are one of the most important components of a car as they are designed to keep you and other road users safe and prevent accidents. Brake pads and discs can become worn over time making brakes less responsive which has the potential to lead to an accident.
Wiper blades – especially here in the UK, we use our wiper blades a lot due to the wet weather we have. Wiper blades only have a certain shelf life before they become worn and eventually don’t perform properly. If your wiper blades don’t work correctly, by clearing the moisture from your windscreen, you could fail your MOT.
If your wipers start to squeak or leave streaks across your windscreen, it could be a sign that they need changing before your view out of the windscreen becomes obstructed.
Timing belts – a timing belt is designed to synchronise the moving parts in your car, but they do start to wear after a certain period of time. The timing belt can snap at any time if too much strain is placed on it. It is also advised you have your water pump changed at the same time as your timing belt – this can start to leak as they become more and more used, which can lead to expensive repairs.
Batteries – keeping you on the road, the battery is what starts your car in the first place. Like other types of batteries, these eventually run out of juice and need replacing. You may notice the first signs of the battery declining when you have trouble starting your car.
Tyres – tyres need to have a minimum tread depth of 2mm, but after 3mm, their performance will start to dwindle, especially in poor weather conditions. Brand new tyres have better grip and stopping distance is reduced, whereas with worn tyres, stopping distance increases with your speed.
We can also run diagnostics on your vehicle to check for any technical issues. If something is wrong with your car, a diagnostic will pick this up so the correct repairs can be made.
